December/January 2010: As part of the "Right to happiness" project, Podrugi is implementing a mini project aiming at preventing violence and sexual abuse in the Almaty Region.
The purpose of the "School of Volunteers" is to train children to the "Life Skills based Education" and to acquaint them to simple methods meant to help them manage at-risk situations and prevent violence at home and amongst children. These methods will be spread by the children-educators themselves in various schools in Almaty.
The mini project is based on "peer to peer education" and guarantees the children's full participation: in the "School of Volunteers" project, the students become the teachers ensuring the appropriation of the information proposed by Podrugi to a whole generation.
The opening day was divided in interactive sessions focusing on different topics, all of which were related to prevention of violence and of sexual abuses.
Nine more seminars are to take place from January to March 2010.
